TORONTO – Two UPM research products recently won two gold medals and two special accolades at 2016 International Invention Innovation Competition In Canada which was held at the North York Memorial Community Hall, Toronto.
The prestigious innovative competition organized by Toronto International Society of Innovation and Advanced Skills (TISIAS), in collaboration with the International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA) and World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA), picked ‘Smart Money Kit : Bright Kids Smart Money’ and ‘Quantum Communication Simulator’(QuCS) as winners of the two gold awards and special accolades. The competition drew the participation from more than 40 countries.
The team comprising lecturer from the Faculty of Human Ecology, Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohamad Fazli Sabri and graduates service officer, Nurhayatul Nira Ramli, put together the financial research product ‘Smart Money Kit : Bright Kids Smart Money’, a set containing 10 interative games as one of the initiatives to enhance public awareness on the best and prudent financial management practices.
Dr Mohamad Fazli said 'Smart Money Kit', a translated version from the original Money Smart Kit: Smart Money Smart Kids, was the first of its kind in Malaysia which originated ffrom UPM research, and suitable for the development of children, aged six to 12 years.
“It features 10 amusing interative games where each game is organised in phases so that children can master the topic well according to their interests, abilities and skills,” he said.
The accolades were also presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr Zuriati Ahmad Zukarnain from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM) for her research and success in developing a web-based software system, known as ‘Quantum Communication Simulator’(QuCS), which could help speed up and simplify the process of modeling the actual quantum experiments.
The software system, known as ‘web as a service’ is helpful to users from all over the world as long as they have internet access in modeling experimental quantums and quantum communication simulations.
As lead researcher, Dr Zuriati said “QuCS” enabled researchers of quantum experiments to determine the basic components for quantum experiments, formulate allocation planning for the purchase of basic components for such experiments, and report the results of each quantum experiment before the actual experiments are carried out.
Both products were also the results of a joint research with Putra Science Park through Innohub programme, and had obtained intellectual property protection, together with some 1,800 other researches, many of which were ready for commercialization.
