Quranic Verses Related to the Philosophy of Madani in Islam

The concept of “falsafah madani” or “civilizational philosophy” in Islam refers to the Islamic view of building a society that is just, cultured, and equitable. Although this term might not be commonly found in the Quran, relevant principles in this context can be found in Quranic verses and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). One verse that illustrates the concept of society in Islam is:

Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13):

“O mankind! Indeed, We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”

This verse emphasizes the importance of brotherhood and tolerance among nations and tribes in Islam. It reflects the social philosophy that involves unity, mutual recognition, and respect between individuals and groups in society.

Furthermore, many Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasize the importance of social justice, sharing, and protecting individual rights within the community. These Hadiths support the social philosophy in Islam by stressing aspects of community, brotherhood, and justice.

Although the term “falsafah madani” is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran, the principles of a just, cultured, and equitable society are reflected in various verses and Islamic teachings. This concept stresses the importance of building a society based on Islamic values to achieve well-being, harmony, and justice for all its members.

Conclusion

Based on the above explanation, the Madani society concept can be applied in Malaysia’s multiracial society and accepted by all races and cultures. The Madani society built must follow the Malaysian framework and maintain balance among communities. The harmonious application of da’wah values and inter-ethnic dialogue will surely succeed in implementing the national aspirations framework for the welfare of the people, while fulfilling the concepts, values, norms, and democratic practices.

A good Madani society is one where all citizens possess high spirituality, rationality, scientific knowledge, emotional control, social relationships, loyalty to national leadership, and inclusive participation of all community members. This will give rise to citizens who are energetic, intelligent, good-hearted, and cultured, working together to create a Madani society.
