PROF. DR. MOHAMAD FAZLI SABRI

Fazli was was born in Lenggong, Perak Darul Ridzuan. He obtained his tertiary Bachelor of Science (Human Development) in 1999 and subsequently a Master of Science (Consumer Science) in 2002 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He also holds a doctorate (Ph.D) in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Family Finance from Iowa State University, USA.

Fazli actively conducts research in the fields of consumer finance, consumerism and financial education involving respondents from all ages. To date, he has led a total of 32 research projects as lead researcher and 40 research projects as co -researcher. Some of the notable national initiated research projects that he has led are "Determinants of Financial Well-Being among B40 Households", "The Influence of Personal Finance and Psychological Factors on Financial Health among Malaysia Millennial Youth", "FIMM Nationwide Survey on Unit Trust Scheme (UTS) and Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) ”and“ Financial Capability and Financial Planning Advisory Services in Malaysia”. He is also active in consulting work where he has led 13 consulting projects as a lead consultant and 15 consulting projects as a joint consultant for various government and private agencies.

The results of his research and consulting work have been published in various journals locally and internationally whereby a total of 70 articles in citation index journals, 90 articles in non-citation index journals, 17 books and 21 chapters within books has been published.  In addition, he also contributes extensively in his field of expertise through columns in newspapers and magazines and is often invited as a guest speaker on radio and television. Fazli is also frequently invited as a speaker for courses and workshops related to personal financial management and cost of living.

Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli also holds professional qualifications such a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation from the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM) and Shariah Registered Financial Planner (SRFP) from the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC). He is also a "Certified HRDF Trainer" and holds a "Basic NLP Practitioner" certification. In addition, he also holds the Malaysian Skills Certificate in Financial Planning (Level 3), Malaysian Skills Diploma (Financial Planning) and Malaysian Advanced Skills Diploma (Financial Planning) from the Skills Development Department, Ministry of Human Resources.

Fazli’s expertise is also internationally recognized. He is a Board Member of the International Academy of Financial Consumers (IAFICO) and Vice President of the Asian Association for Consumer Interests & Marketing (AACIM). In addition, he is also an advisory member of the Center for Organization Leadership and Development (COLD). Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli also received an invitation as a Fellow (Dignitary Fellow) from the International Organization for Academic and Scientific Development (IOASD) and Scholars Academic and Scientific Society. He is a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural Institute and the Institute of Social Sciences and Management (STIAMI), Indonesia.

In the industry, Fazli was appointed the Vice President (Research & Publication) of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) for the period 2017-2023 and exco of the Malaysian Consumer and Family Economics Association (MACFEA) for the 2012-2020 term. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli has also been appointed as an advisor in the field of financial well-being by Institut Darul Ridzuan, the think tank for the Perak State government for the period 2021-2023.

He is also a member of numerous journal’s editorial board at the national and international levels. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Wealth Management & Financial Planning, South Asian Research Journal of Business and Management and Journal of Social Science, Education and Humanities, PERTANIKA Journal of Social Science and Humanities, Asian Women, The International Journal of Business and Management, The International Review of Financial Consumers and International Journal of Management.

Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli is also a member of several associations and professional bodies at the local and international levels. Among them are the Malaysian Consumer and Family Economics Association, Malaysian Social Science Association, Malaysian Financial Planning Council, Financial Planning Association of Malaysia, Scholars Academic & Scientific Society, International Society for Development & Sustainability, and International Federation for Home Economics.

He has launched an innovative product for financial education called “Smart Money Kit: Bright Kids Smart Money”. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli has also received various awards at the university (30), national (12) and international (17) levels for his research, innovation, consultancy and expertise.
