UPM, NADA organise Drug-Free Campus Programme

SERDANG, Dec 9 – The Integrity Unit, Office of the Vice Chancellor, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEM), UPM, together with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) Selangor, organised a Drug-Free Campus Programme with the aim to give exposure and awareness to students and members of higher learning institutions on healthy lifestyle without using drugs.

The programme was held in conjunction with the celebration of the Integrity Month at UPM in November each year.

Director of NADA Selangor, Dr. Nazira Sadiron, said that the purpose for NADA to implement the programme was to support the efforts of drug education and prevention especially among youths.

“We intend to mobilise UPM students and staff as proactive members of NADA Selangor,” she said.

The programme chairperson and course lecturer of FEM3303 (Planning & Evaluation Programme), FEM, UPM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanina H. Hamsan, said the main goal of the programme is to strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including drug abuse and alcohol abuse.

She added that it is also to achieve a healthy peaceful nation in line with the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals – SDG.

“Drug prevention efforts are not confined to NADA alone, but also the university which is responsible to help eradicate the use of drugs in order to achieve the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030,” she said.

 

The programme provided a sharing session on the Self-Leadership Coaching (SLC) module by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanina, founder of the module, and also an intervention therapy sharing session forum with Dr. Nazira Sadiron.

The programme also involved the Training Section, Registrar Office and the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), UPM as strategic partners. – UPM
