Panggung Percubaan, UPM, 15-17 April 2019 - Passepartout Duo were in UPM from 15-17 April 2019 to run a music composition & performance seminar, workshop, and concert. Piano and percussion duo, Nicoletta Favari (piano) & Christopher Salvito (percussion) are touring through most of Asia for 2019 and were in UPM for seminars, workshops and a concert. Passepartout Duo whom are based in Berlin, has extensive educational experience with composition and instrumental departments, and with music and ensemble management workshops throughout the US and Europe.

Following the 2-day music seminar & workshop, there was a concert by Passepartout Duo on the 17th April 2019 at the Panggung Percubaan, UPM. This concert featured new music compositions by our own UPM Music students, Liew Kok Tong (2nd year, Bachelor of Music) and Jason Tan (2nd year, Bachelor of Music), and Malaysian composers Dr. Wong Chee Wei (MIA), and Mr. Yii Kah Hoe (SEGi College), which were selected from the 2-day music workshops.

Acknowledging that Faculty of Human Ecology in UPM offers music program/subject, Passepartout Duo chose UPM’s Department of Music as the platform for the seminar, workshop, and concert in Malaysia. Passepartout Duo and the Music Department of UPM jointly organized this composition & performance seminar, workshop, and concert. Music lecturer from UPM’s Music Department, Pn. Camellia Siti Maya Mohamed Razali as Project Leader, was involved in organizing the programme.

This seminar, workshop, and concert series aimed to encourage and nurture the talent of students in composition and performance, especially in piano and percussion. Through this music seminar, workshop, and concert, students were engaged to expand their thoughts and use their artistic creativity. Also, this workshop and concert inspired students and strengthen participants’ talents while exposing them to work together with professional overseas musicians. This activity benefited UPM’s Music Department through publicity and international recognition of our music programs as well as the Faculty of Human Ecology’s industrial network activity.

Objectives

  • To promote Bachelor of Music UPM to the public and future potential students.

  • To create an industrial network for the UPM’s Music Department and the Faculty of Human Ecology.

  • The seminar and workshop encourages a creative culture among students especially in the field of arts engaging students’ critical and creative thinking skills towards music and the arts.

  • This workshop and concert provides a platform for students to showcase and develop their creative abilities and talents in the arts toward a higher standard.
