Internal Audit ISO 9001:2015 Strengthens Quality Management at the Faculty of Human Ecology, UPM

Serdang, 15 May 2025 – The Faculty of Human Ecology (FEM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has conducted the 2025 Internal Audit for its Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001:2015. The two-day audit began today.

This audit session was led by certified auditor, Madam Shamriza binti Shari from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Relations), UPM. The audit is a mandatory annual procedure for all Responsibility Centres (PTJ) in UPM, carried out as a continuous effort to ensure compliance with established quality management standards.

The audit opening session was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Zainal Madon, Deputy Dean (Graduate Studies and Industry & Community Relations), representing the Dean of FEM, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Fazli. Also present were academic officers, management and professional (P&P) officers, and support staff of FEM.

The scope of this audit involved the implementation of several procedures related to academic affairs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in line with the faculty’s commitment to strengthening a high-performing higher education management system.

The main objectives of implementing the ISO 9001:2015 QMS include:
a) To determine whether UPM implements Quality Management effectively in accordance with the requirements of the MS ISO 9001:2025 standard, aligning with UPM’s Quality Policy and Quality Objectives
b) To prepare for the external audit by the certification body (SIRIM)
c) To reduce corrective actions after problems occur
d) To identify duties and actions in detail
e) To document management practices and work procedures in a structured manner
f) To avoid recurrence of issues through preventive measures
g) To ensure that tasks are done right the first time and every time
h) To demonstrate to assessors that the services and management system are controlled and effective

FEM continues to demonstrate strong commitment to supporting the implementation of internal audits as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure service quality remains at an optimum level and meets established customer service standards.
