SERDANG, April 8 (UPM) - Deputy Dean (Graduate Studies), Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof Dr Jayum Children Jawan appointed as the incumbent Chair Tun Abdul Razak 15th, Ohio University, United States of America for a period of two from July 1 next year.
The appointment was notified by letter of the Ministry of Education, recently.
Prof Dr Jayum, 56, who is also the Deputy Chairman, Cluster Security Political and International Affairs, National Council of Professors joined as a lecturer in the Faculty of Education UPM in 1982.
He who comes from Sibu, Sarawak has been invited as a Visiting Professor twice at Hull University in 2004 and 2005, and in collaboration with Professor Victor King studied the Sarawak state election in 2001 with a book Ethnicity and Electoral Politics in Sarawak, East Malaysia.
He was also invited as a Visiting Professor at Leeds University in 2011.
Prof Dr Jayum appreciate his appointment as Chair with the Tun Abdul Razak describing it as one of the highest honors for academic staff.
"I will work hard because I carry the name of UPM and Malaysia ... I have to do my best," he said.
As incumbent chair, he said, he will teach political science and history of the Malaysian government to students at Ohio University in the United States and Malaysia's role in regional and international politics.
He said he will also conduct research on the status of relations between Malaysia and the United States as well as the development of the relationship, and look for space to further enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
In the second, he said, he was asked to design an international seminar on society, culture, and politics in Malaysia. - UPM
